Today I'll tell you all about the gorgeous "porcelain doll" model-turned-actress Gemma Ward.

Full Name: Gemma Louise Ward
Nickname: Gem

Height: 5'9.5"

Early Life
Gemma Ward was born on November 3, 1987 in Perth, Western Australia to Gary and Claire Ward. She has 3 siblings, Sophie, her older sister(also a model), and her younger twin brothers Oscar and Henry. She studied in Presbyterian Ladies' College and Shenton College. She was the family clown and ever since she was cast to play witch in her school play of Hansel and Gretel when she was 10, she had a passion for acting.

She didn't want to become a model, she was discovered in 2002 at 14 totally accidentally! She was just accompanying her friends to the Australian modelling competition Search for a Supermodel. She said in a Teen Vogue interview :
"I had come straight from auntie and uncle's farm and I was wearing this big gray barn jacket with mud all over it. When the scout came up to me, I said, 'No, thank you.' They forged my mum's signature, and pushed me in front of the cameras."
She didn't win, but her unique look got the attention of a spotter from Vivien's Modelling Agency who made her a show reel. The reel ended up on the desk of David Cunningham, an ace modelling scout of IMG models.

Modelling Career

It Girl (2004-2007)

In May 2003 at 15 she was in Australian Fashion Week, and within a year, she was in Italy meeting Miucca Prada of Prada.

In September 2004 at 16, she became the youngest model to appear in American Vogue as one of the 9 Models of the Moment.

In February 2005 she appeared in no less than 20 New York shows earning $20, 000 per show. At 17, she was the face of Calvin Klein's Obsession Night perfume billboards. At spring 2005 she was on the cover of TIME Magazine, and in September 2005 she was on the cover of Vogue China.

By 2006 she became the biggest Australian Supermodel since Elle McPherson. At 18, she was the first model to appear in Teen Vogue Magazine ever. Ward was featured in 60 Minutes, an Australian television program as the "It Girl". She was earning $25, 000 per runway show. In Allure Magazine October 2006 she was described as "Model of the Moment" and "She is an exotic blond, rarest of creatures."

In July 2007 she earned an estimated of $3 M in the past year, Forbes named her 10th of the World's Top Earning Supermodels. In October she was on the cover of the first ever Vogue India. She was named one of the top 30 models of the 2000's by Vogue Paris.

Retirement (2008-present)

In August 2008 she was reported retired from modelling to pursue acting. She didn't walk the runway since Spring 2008 and last modelled in the cover of October 2008 Spanish Marie Claire.

In November 2009, She officially announced retiring from the modelling industry.

At January 20011, after avoiding the spotlight for 3 years, she opened up in an interview for The Sunday Telegraph explaining her break was something spurred by Heath's Death.

Her first pictorial in years was Australia's Sunday Telegraph Magazine for the February 6 2011 edition.

Acting Career

She wanted to pursue acting since she was a child and here was her shot! She starred in The Black Balloon in 2008. She was also cast in The Strangers as one of the masked intruders " Doll Face".

After 3 years out of the spotlight she was in the production The Ugly One. She was also cast as Tamara in Pirates of the Caribbean : On Stranger Tides.

She is just recently cast in The Great Gatsby.

What to pack when you go to: The beach

This is the 5th post in the May edition of the RANDOM Magazine

It's summer or almost is, the sun is at its height and the temperature is rising- time to go to the nearest beach! Relaxing and fun, the beach is one of the best places to be during summer. All you have to do is get some fun-loving beach buddies(or go by yourself to get some alone time), pack your bag and go! But wait, what should you pack??? Today I will show you what are the 25 beach essentials to pack and how to find your perfect swimsuit.

What to pack:

What to pack when you go to the beach

1. Swimsuit

Swimsuit, the most important item to bring to the beach. There are millions of swimsuits, but how do you find YOURS? Here is a small guide:

One-piece or two piece?

One-piece if: You're in for the swimming or you're not comfortable in 2 piece. It's much safer so you don't end up losing your top or it rising up.

Two-piece if: You're just going to relax, tan, or just spend time with your girlfriends.

You can still wear a 2-piece for swimming but a 1-piece is more ideal and you can still wear a 1-piece for lounging.

Swimsuit for your body

If you're long or tall
  • Try horizontal stripes or nappy fabrics
  • Try bright colors
  • Try a bikini
  • Try a cut-out one-piece
  • Try boy shorts or those cute ruffle skirted bikinis
  • Avoid vertical stripes, high necklines, and dark, solid colors
If you have short legs or torso or are petite
  • Try a suit cut high on the thigh
  • Try vertical stripes
  • Try a solid bottom bikini and a printed top
  • Try a solid, one-piece with a plunging neckline
  • Avoid boy shorts and those skirted bikinis
If you're big on top
  • Try halter-top bikinis
  • Try a one-piece with structure in the bust, like foam cups
  • Avoid strapless bandeau tops and those tiny tri-tops.
If you're small on top
  • Try bikini tops with padding, under-wire, or demi-bra style.
  • Try those cute ruffled tops, bandeau tops, or tri-tops.
  • Avoid tops with too much fabric or have a poor fit

8. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are stylish and great when you're relaxing at the beach.

They are the most versatile thing you can bring to the beach, they can be used as a cover-up, towel, hammock, or just to dust of the sand at the end of the day.

Pretty and trendy a colorful beaded necklace is great for the beach.

11. Bright colored cuff or bangle

Summer-y and cute, these are a must-have accessory.

Whether your going to lie on it or dry yourself with it, a beach towel is a must.

17. Foldable Beach Chair

A foldable chair makes relaxing at the beach even easier.

20. Strawberries or fruit

Nice to snack on and is very healthy.

21. Camera

Create some memories at the beach and bring along a camera- just make sure not to get it wet!

22. Bottle of Water

Keep yourself hydrated and refreshed with some water.

007: Songs

'Sup guys! Sorry I wasn't able to post since... a week ago? Two? I've been pretty busy. But I'm still sticking to just ONE quote a day. But what I'll probably have to post two song lyrics! So here's the Quote.

"You gotta kick it up a notch."
-Starship, 'Kick It Up A Notch'

And here is Song Lyrics #1:

___

Beauty
By Darren Criss, Starship

Look how the silk worms sway in the wind
Weaving their silk
Regardless of what you've done or where you've been they'll give ya
Beauty

See how the dragonfly
Dances through the flowers
A brilliant ballet
At fifty miles an hour
There's no admission
To this vision of
Beauty

And it might
Be slightly different from the things that you may know
You can't deny
There's something special when you see the night sky glow

So look out
It's around every corner
There's something magical in the air
Don't hide
From you eyes or ignore
There is beauty
Beauty everywhere

Check out the bees
They don't buzz around for money
They do it for free
Making love
Making honey
Spreading pollen
How can you not fall in love
And it might make you sneeze
But'cha better believe
It's beautiful stuff

Then there's the wonder of the caterpillar
The best show in town
The ending is killer
There's a larvael
Real life marvel to be found
And it might sound cutesy
But there is beauty all around

And it doesn't matter
If you've got twelve eyes
Or you've got two
Because nothing need anymore than one to take in the view

If you're preoccupied
With what's on the outside
You get lost
In the how it can seem
But open your eyes
And you'll be surprised
To find out
How much more
Something different can mean

We don't got
Any kind of worry
Our way of life is "lassiez fair"
No wealth
No poor
No hiprocrisy
Just beauty
(Beauty everywhere)

So look out
It's all around
Kinda weird but that's neither here nor there
You can face it embrace it
No need to fear the beauty
Beauty everywhere
Beauty everywhere
Beauty everywhere
Beauty everywhere
___

I love that song. It's technically both about nature and life. And judging. And a perfe- Okayyyyyyyyy. I HAVE to stop rambling. And now, Song Lyrics #2:

___

No Way
By Darren Criss, A Very Potter Musical

My mind is racing
But my heart it beats faster
I'm in control
Commander and master
Lady Fate creating disaster
But she ain't the boss of me

(Spoken)
Nuh-uh

Head-on collision with a catastrophic set back
Makes you either wanna get lost or get back
I choose the latter and let's not forget that
We hold the cards this time
So there's no need to b**** or whine

There's no way
I'm gonna take another option
No way I'm gonna settle with a loss
No way I'm gonna sit around and watch
There's no, no way

There's no way
You're gonna find me in the background
No damn way you gonna see me satisfied
No way they're ever gonna make me back down
No, no way

Home-field advantage
The upper hand is ours
So the game is on
The clock ticks
But we've got our tricks to fuss with them
Fix what's wrong

Let's wake up and go guys
Take out the bad guys
Break out your mad eyes
YEAH
We'll take it on together
We're stronger and we're better
And if there's a problem

(Spoken)
HA

Whatever
There's no way
We're gonna leave it up to chance
There's no damn way we're gonna go without a fight
No way they're gonna see us on our a**
There's no, no way

There's no way
We're gonna settle with sorrow
Leave right now if you think this ain't real
Today
Not waiting for tomorrow

No, no way there's no way
No, no way there's no way
NO, NO WAY THERE'S NO WAY

THERE'S
NO
WAY
____

I don't know about you, but I'm putting this on whenever I feel I can't do something. BTW, comment which of the following you want me to post:

"Change" By Taylor Swift
"Kick It Up A Notch" By Darren Criss

Or something else!

Fashion through the years: 1910's

This is the 4th post of the May edition of Random Magazine

Hello :)
Today I will take you back to the past and tell you about the fashion of the 1910's.

Introduction

World War 1 made many changes, and one of those changes was fashion. 1910's fashion was much more practical than the years before it. The oh-so-famous corsets weren't worn as much, skirts rose from floor-length to well above the ankle, and men's trousers were worn cuffed to ankle-length and creased. The 1910's fashion was also characterized by rich, oriental, and exotic opulence.

Some of the Influential Fashion Designers of the time

  1. Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel
  2. Bree Bolin
  3. Paul Poiret
  4. Jacques Doucet
  5. Mariano Fortuny
  6. Georges Doeuillet
  7. Madeleine Cheruit
  8. Jeanne Paquin
  9. John Redfern
  10. Charles Worth

Woman's wear

Because of the war, more and more women were forced to work, so they wore clothes more practical and better suited for these activities.

Tunics and hobble skirts

The most popular silhouette of the decade was a long underskirt under a tunic. Early in the decade, the waist-lines were very high (just below the bust), echoing the styles of the early 19th century and full tunics were worn over narrow, draped skirts. But by 1914, skirts were very narrow at the ankle, but widest at the hips. The waistlines were softly defined and loose, and by the mid-decade, dropped near the natural waist, where they remained during the war. By 1916, they were wearing calf-length dresses over an ankle-length underskirt. When fashion houses re-opened in 1919, they showed lowered and even more undefined waist.

Suits and coats

A tailored suite of matching jacket and skirt , or Tailleur, was worn for travel and in the city. The fashionable women wore matching cuffs, striking hats, and fur scarves with their Tailluer. Like the lines of tunics, jackets followed the raised and lightly defined waists. Most coats were kimono shaped, but fur coats were also very popular.

World War 1

Darker colors and simpler cuts became the norm during the need to mourn the dead and visit the wounded. A new monochrome look emerged although unfamiliar to young women in comfortable circumstances. Women dropped the tunic-and-skirt ensemble, shortening skirts and simplifying dresses. Full skirts with hemlines above the ankle were called "war crinoline" by the fashion press, promoting the "practical" and "patriotic" style. Also, women were dressing less extravagant due to funds being put to war effort.

Footwear

Shoes had slightly curved, high heels. Stockings were put emphasis on by short skirts, and gaiters were worn in the winter. Shoes with criss-crossing straps at the ankles, also called Tango shoes, peeked out from wrapped and draped evening skirts. During the war years, women wore lower wedge heels and sensible laced shoes with round toes.

Hairstyles and hats

Bobbed or short hair, trend-set by dancer and actress Irene Castle, spread rapidly. False buns, curls, wigs, and postiches were frequently incorporated into hair. Broad hats with face-shadowing brim and large hats with wide brims were the height of fashion early in the decade, gradually shrinking into smaller hats with flat brims.

Men's wear

In general, hair was worn short, mustaches were often curled, and styles were unchanged from the previous decade.

Coats, trousers, and waistcoats

Three-piece suits consisting of trousers and a sack coat with a matching waistcoat were worn. As were matching coat and trousers with contrasting waistcoat or matching coat and waistcoat with contrasting trousers.

Coats

The lounge or sack coat continued to replace the frock coat for most semi-formal and informal occasions. The blazer cut lick a sack coat with brass buttons and patch pockets, was worn for sports, sailing, and other casual activities. The Norfolk jacket remained fashionable for shooting and rugged outdoor pursuits. The morning coat was still worn for formal day occasions. A dark tail coat, with trousers and a dark or light waistcoat was still the most formal evening dress. Knee-length topcoats and calf-length overcoats were worn during winter.

Trousers

Trousers were ankle length with cuffs and were creased front and back. Gaiters or spats filled the gap between shoes and shorter trousers.

Waistcoats

Waistcoats fastened lower on the chest, and were collarless.

Shirts and neckties

Collars of formal dress shirts were turned over, very tall and stiffened, and with rounded corners. The average necktie was narrow four-in-hand. White bow ties were worn with evening wear but ascot ties were worn with formal day dress.

Accessories

Panama hats were worn for travel and flat straw boaters were more acceptable than previously. Silk top hats were a requirement for upper class formal wear, stiff bowler hats or soft felt homburgs were worn with sack or lounge suits.

Children's wear

They evolved in two different directions, formal dress and day-to-day. Boys wore suits with trousers that extended to the knee, the lengths of skirts for girls were cut shorter because of material rationing, military influences in apparel for little boys was typical, and boys even wear shorts during winter.

CLUE: She has a daughter

That's all, thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed!

Celebrity News

This is the third post in the May edition of RANDOM Magazine
Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about some celebrity news and fashion news! Shall we start?

The NEWS:

Okay let's break this up into parts:

  • Good news: Self-explanatory, news that is somewhat good to hear.
  • Bad news: Self-explanatory, news that you don't really want to hear unless you hate the celebrities [in the news].
  • Other news: Well, news that is neither good nor bad.
  • Fashion: My favourite photos and outfits from premieres, festivals, concerts, or just spotted somewhere.

Good news:

Taylor Swift donates $4M to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Our favourite country singer is giving back to her fans by donating $4,000,000,000 to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. $4M is the largest donation given to the museum by an artist and the second largest from 1 person. The money will fund the Taylor Swift Education Center, a classroom and exhibit opening in 2014.

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears join Simon Cowell and L.A. Ried as the new "X factor" judges.

30 year old Britney Spears and 19 year old Demi Lovato replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger as the new X factor Judges. What do you think about these new additions?

Kanye joins "Keeping up with the Kardashians."

After getting over the 72 day marriage with Kris, Kim has moved on to a new man- Kanye West, and according to the preview, it looks like Kanye will be joining the Kardashian series. Are you exited to see the new season?

Bad news:

iCarly canceled after 5 seasons.

After 5 seasons, it's confirmed that iCarly is coming to an end. In June the cast will film their last episode airing November. Miranda is going to USC but it seems the rest of the cast are staying in Nick and joining to series. How do you feel about the end of iCarly?

Jennifer Lopez quitting American Idol.

Because of her hectic schedule(mom of twins, tour with Enrique Iglesias, recording an album, film projects etc), JLo has confirmed leaving AI. Are you sad that JLo won't be judge anymore? Who do you think should be a new judge?

Josh Hutcherson had a surgery to fix his broken nose.

The 'Hunger Games' star Josh Hutcherson recently had a operation to repair a deviated septum. Ouch!

John Mayer had botox in his vocal cords.

John Mayer had vocal cord problems that make him unable to sing so they injected his vocal cords with botox to make it freeze. He had to cancel tour dates after learning he'd have to have a second botox shot because his first botox did not work.

Phillip Phillips jeopardising his health to stay in the competition.

Phillip Phillips, now in the top 2 or American Idol, needs a surgery to repair a kidney tissue as soon as possible. But if he has the surgery he would have to be in the sidelines for six weeks, so he will wait till after the finale. In the meantime, he is just taking medication but it is resulting to dry mouth-which may affect his singing. Who do you want to win?

Jackie Chan is retiring from action movies.

Jackie Chan, 58, announced in the Cannes movie festival that he is retiring from action movies because he feels too old for stunts and is tired. "Chinese Zodiac" will be his last action flick. How do you feel about Jackie Chan quitting action movies? Which of his was your favourite?

Other news:

'America's Next Top Model' cycle 19 twist.

After firing Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel, and Jay Alexander, ANTM welcome a new cast Johnny Wujek and Rob Evans. Wujek(stylist of celebrities such as Katy Perry and Shakira) replacing Manuel will serve as the creative consultant to guide the models during the shoot. As for model Chris Evans will be the new judge replacing Nigel Barker. Other than the cast change, there is another major change: we(the audience) will have a say on who goes home. Are you still going to watch after these major changes?

What do you think about Nicki Minaj's new music video 'Right by my Side'?

Have you watched Nicki Minaj's new music video featuring rappers Chris Brown and Nas? Tell us what you think.

Fashion:

Time for fashion! Here are some of my favourite looks of the week!

Let's start with fashion from the streets.

Demi Lovato at ABC Kitchen

Demi, the newest X factor judge, has dinner with the rest of the judges at ABC Kitchen. Demi's outfit is a perfect example of the famous 'pop of color' and also and an example of using accessories to change your outfit. She is also embracing the 'gold' trend with her rings, earrings, and clutch- but we wonder "Who did her makeup???"

AnnaSophia Robb and Nina Dobrev at NYC.

They all look gorgeous head-to-toe!

AnnaSophia's beautiful halter dress showcases one of my favourite trends: Floral. I also love her black heels!

Nina Dobrev looks great in her stunning Dolce & Gabbana gold dress and Jimmy Choo clutch and heels.

Nina Dobrev
AnnaSophia Robb

Fashion trends: In's and Out's

This is the second post in the May edition of RANDOM Magazine.

Hello :)

Today I'll be teaching you the fashion trend in's and out's of spring/summer 2012.

Things in italic are IN things underlined are OUT.

  • Let's start with colors!

2012 is all about color but that doesn't mean neutrals/black and white are out, you know what is though? Gray. Tangerines and mint greens are the essential colors of the year but neons are still standing strong. Of metallics, gold is currently in and silver is going out.

  • Now we'll move on to patterns and fabrics.
Stripes, Florals, Bold prints, and Lace are currently rocking the runways and the streets while animal prints are growing old.

  • Let's talk accessories!

Pearls are the must-haves of the season, but other in accessories include nature-inspired, big & bold, and of course the statement collar. As for the out, they are suspenders and cowboy hats.

  • Bottoms:
Jeans are in when they're colored but out when they are cropped/too short- a simply solution to this is folding them. Skirts are trendy when either maxi or mini so try to avoid midi. As for shorts, it's in to have them long or highwaisted, but out to have them just plain short.

  • Tops:
Peplum is currently rising not only in tops, but also skirts and dresses. Out are the days of too long tops/tunics.

  • Dresses
When wearing dresses, it's all about great fit, highlighting your strenghts, and hiding your weaknesses so avoid dresses that don't fit or overwhelm you. There are so many dress trends that it would take too long to tell you, but the timeless classic is the LBD.

Further reading: If you want a dress to match you refer to this.
  • Shoes!!!
Shoes are all about being comfy yet stylish, so uncomfortable shoes/heels are totally out, while kitten heels are totally in. In boots, uggs are out and cut-out booties are in.

  • Bags:
Say goodbye to the time when bags should match you shoes and outfit! Your bag should pop while still looking great that's why bright clutches are in. Another bag trend I want to tell you about is reptile leather!

  • It looks like this post is coming to an end, so let me tell you the in and out styles!

Colorblocking, athletic chic and graphic prints are looking great both on the runway and off! As for styles you should avoid? looking too matching (head-to-toe denim, all animal print, etc).

I guess that's all for now, thank you for reading! :)

007 : A song from "A Very Potter Musical"

Hey guys! 007 here. First post/blog! Yay!

What I'm going to blog about are different songs that can be really related to your life. I'm also placing the lyrics below it so you could learn the song if you like it! This first one is from A Very Potter Musical, so I don't own it. Hope you like it!

Not Alone By Darren Criss

I've been alone
Surrounded by darkness
And I've seen how heartless
The world can be

And I've seen you crying
You felt like it's hopeless
I'll always do my best
To make you see

Chorus:
Baby you're not alone
Cause you're here with me
And nothing's ever gonna take us down
Cause nothing can keep me from loving you
And you know it's true
It don't matter what'll come to be
Our love is all we need
To make it through

Now I know it ain't easy
But it ain't hard trying
Every time I see you smiling
And I feel you so close to me
And you tell me

Chorus

I still have trouble
I trip and stumble
Trying to make sense of things sometimes
I look for reasons
But I don't need 'em
All I need is to look in your eyes
And I realize

Baby I'm not alone
Cause you're here with me
And nothing's ever gonna take us down
Cause nothing can keep me from loving you
And you know it's true
It don't matter what'll come to be
Our love is all we need
To make it through

Cause you're here with me
And nothing's ever gonna bring us down
Cause nothing nothing NOTHING can keep me from loving you
And you know it's true
It don't matter what'll come to be
You know our love is all we need
Our love is all we need to make it through

Please ignore the last, silent minute in the video. It was there when I first watched it :/

Okay... So, that's it! Hope it was nice for you! I'll blog these things on a weekly basis. Maybe every Saturday! Next is from... Taylor Swift! Can you guess? :)

Tips on What to Wear for Your Prom

Sorry I'm a little late on this one, but here it is... the post that will solve your problems about what to wear for your prom, or simply just a night out~

Theme: Dresses

Which category fits you best?

-Long and Lean
Fashion Icon: Gywneth Paltrow

If you have long and lean legs, like Gwyneth Paltrow, I encourage you to wear long, floor-length dresses. They're attractive on you girls with lean legs because the dress emphasizes your tiny waist, long legs, and your slight curves. Your style: Glam

-Petite
Fashion Icon: Lucy Hale

If you're more of the petite type, I suggest that you wear short/mini dresses, like Lucy Hale. They look absolutely stunning on girls with petite sizes because they give the illusion that the girls have longer legs or longer bodies. Your style: Chic

-Curvy
Fashion Icon: Kim Kardashian

In my opinion, A-line dresses look gorgeous on girls with curvy bodies, because the cinched middle gives your hips more room. Plus, it also creates a slimming waistline. Your style: Girly

-Athletic
Fashion Icon: Scarlett Johansson

For those of you who are athletic, like Scarlett Johansson, try wearing strapless/backless gowns to show off your toned shoulders and back. These gowns create a defined shape around the waistline.Your style: Bold

That's it for tonight, sorry guys! It's the end of this post, but stay tuned for my next post, which will be different fashion quizzes for you to try~
